Today I just found out during Homework House that two of the the fifth grade boys in the program are reading at a second grade level, and one of the fifth grade girls is reading at a third grade level. While I knew that most of the kids were reading below their grade level, it came as a shock that there were ones who were that low. After being involved with the program for three years, I it should not surprise me, but it did anyway. I am now working with their teachers to form activities that will meet their individual needs. With hard work and specialized attention, I hope that these kids can improve greatly this year!
